BD LSRFortessa X20

BD Fortessa X20 is a state-of-the-art analyser capable of analysing a high number of parameters at speeds of up to 10,000 cells per second.

  • BD Fortessa X20 is a state - of - the - art analyser equipped with 5 spatially separated lasers (UV - 355nm, Violet-405nm, Blue-488nm, Yellow-Green -561nm and Red- 640nm).

Has capacity to measure up to 18 fluorescent parameters at a time, as well as FSC-A and SSC-A.

  • If using tubes, samples must be placed in BD compatible 5mL tubes.

This cytometer is also equipped with HTS - high throughput sampler which allows you to load your samples directly from 96/384 well plate.

  • Assisted and independent booking options available. Independent usage is available 24hours-a-day, pending booking availability. Full facility induction and training can be provided by a member of our team on request.

Use and applications

  • Both fresh and fixed cells can be acquired but they must be biosafety level 1 status.

This cytometer can detect objects as small as 0.5uM beads, bacteria, and platelets using the FSCA (surface area) and SSCA (complexity) parameters.

Small objects with with sizes from 100nM - 50uM can be detected based on fluorescent tags.

  • Depending on the concentration of cells and the frequency of the population of interest, it can take from a few seconds to a few minutes to record data for 10,000 cells of interest.

Please allow 15 minutes at the start of data acquisition for set up and 15 minutes at the end of data acquisition for cleaning and shutdown.

  • Please click here for a full list of costs and charges.

  • Yes - Please book as far in advance as possible to ensure your time slot. However, It is often possible to find a timeslot on this machine for same day bookings.

The facility houses 2 identical BD LSRFortessa X20’s (Bluebell and Daisy). This means that there should always be a backup instrument available if one breaks down.

Cytoflex LX

Our most accessible machine for new flow cytometrists, the Cytoflex LX is fitted with APD detectors that specialise in measuring fluorescent emission spectra within the far red scale and offers superior resolution to PMT detectors.

  • Equipped with 4 spatially separated lasers (Violet-405nm, Blue-488nm, Yellow-Green -561nm and Red- 640nm).

Has capacity to measure up to 16 fluorescent parameters at a time, as well as FSC-A and SSC-A.

  • If using tubes, samples must be placed in 1.5mL Eppendorf’s or 5mL tubes.

This cytometer is also equipped with a high throughput sampler (plate reader) which allows you to load your samples directly from 96/384 well plate.

  • Assisted and independent booking options available. Independent usage is available 24hours-a-day, pending booking availability. Full facility induction and training can be provided by a member of our team on request.

Amnis ImageStreamX MkII

Best described as a high throughput microscope, this machine enables users to take a high resolution picture of every single event and overlay flow data with microscopy pictures. This cytometer is essential if you are interested in changes in morphology of cells, the co-localisation of structures within cells, or the translocation of structures within cells.

  • ImageStream MKII is equipped with 4 lasers: 405, 488, 561 and 638 nm.

9 fluorescent channels and 2 brightfield channels.

    (optical magnification of 20x, 40x or 60x).
