FAQs

  • Flow Cytometry is a powerful technique that allows you to test multiple parameters of your sample (i.e immunofluorescence analysis, cell-cycle and proliferation analysis, analysis of transfected fluorescent tags and many more) by fluorescence readout. Main advantages of this technique are accuracy and speed. You can analyse millions of cells in a matter of minutes and gather fluorescent data for every single cell you run through the analyser.

  • Based in the heart of Oxford, the Don Mason Facility of Flow Cytometry is among the most respected flow cytometry facilities in the world. We offer state-of-the-art flow cytometry services to experienced and new users of flow cytometry machines, including cell analysis and cell sorting, as well as full training and support (if required) from our expert team.

  • In the absence of a pre-arranged special agreement, cancellations on analysers can be made up to 8 hours before the scheduled start time for cell analysers without incurring charges. For cell sorters, cancellation must be made more than 24 hours in advance of the start time without incurring charges. If the booking slot is subsequently used or partially used the original user will only be charged for any unused part of the booking slot.

  • Don Mason (1934-2021) was a pioneer of flow cytometry within the Dunn School of Pathology, making seminal contributions to regulation of immune responses, and particularly to mechanisms of organ transplantation rejection and to theory and concepts of affinity in immune recognition. • The rates charged for the instruments in the Facility are designed to recover the costs incurred by the Facility e.g. service contracts, sheath fluid, plasticware etc., in accordance with Full Economic Costing (FEC). Running costs are supported by capital contributions made by departments from within The University of Oxford Medical Sciences Division (MSD). Therefore, applications to use the facility from outside of MSD will be charged at a higher hourly rate.

  • Funds for this Facility were provided by the Edward Penley Abraham Research Fund, the John Fell Fund, the Cellular Immunology Unit Trust, and the departments of Biochemistry, Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, Clinical Neurosciences, Medicine, and Chemisty.

  • Staff members at The Don Mason Facility of Flow Cytometry Facility do not expect to be extended authorship for work conducted within the facility. However, the following acknowledgement should be included for work conducted within the facility that has led to publications:

“We thank Robert Hedley and Vasiliki Tsioligka for providing technical assistance in the analysis of 'x' at The Don Mason Facility of Flow Cytometry , Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, University of Oxford".
